Mini has dominated the small car segment for decades, and even today, its cars remain as popular as ever. Still a British brand, its cars (most of which are made in the UK), offer some incredible heritage and desirability, with many British-inspired touches, including the fantastic Union Jack tail lights which are fitted across the Mini line-up.
Through ‘old’ and ‘new’ Mini, its cars have always served as desirable transport for the masses, bringing a level of style and personality that’s often lacking in so many cars. The customisation options available are also among some of the best around and means customers can make their car their own.
Mini is also really pushing ahead when it comes to EVs, with the firm saying it will only sell EVs by 2030 and phase out its petrol models in the run-up to that. It’s already got its Electric hatch, but customers are now able to choose a stylish Mini Electric Convertible too.
Every new Mini is supplied with a three-year warranty from the date of registration, which will cover the car for, in Mini’s words, ‘almost every eventuality’. Separately, on EVs, Mini warrants the high-voltage lithium-ion battery against any defects for eight years, or 80,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.
Unlike other manufacturers, Mini also offers roadside assistance for the same term as the warranty, with new Minis coming with three years of breakdown cover. Assistance can be arranged for a host of scenarios, whether it’s a road traffic collision, damage or vandalism, to give just a few examples.

The main draw to a Mini is the way they look. The British brand has successfully managed to evolve its iconic design, but without taking away the fundamentals – including the big round headlights that Minis are synonymous for. The latest cars also come with cool Union Jack-inspired rear lights, which are a nod to the British heritage of Mini.
The electric Mini models on offer also remain refreshingly compact, with the firm keeping the majority of its cars small enough to still be easy to use and drive around busy towns and cities. At the same time, the firm still manages to pack a host of technologies into its cars, with the latest examples all featuring a large 8.8-inch touchscreen as standard, while high-spec cars feature luxuries like a head-up display, panoramic glass sunroof and Harman Kardon sound system.
The driving experience has always been at the core of a Mini, and electric models have managed to retain that hugely enjoyable ‘go-kart feel’ that this brand is known for. Thanks to the use of relatively small batteries, the Mini Electric is light by EV standards, and makes this Mini still feel agile, but also particularly sporty thanks to its zippy electric powertrain.
Mini offers two electric cars in its current line-up. Here we explore the best features of both.
Mini kick-started its EV offensive in 2020 with the arrival of the Electric. It’s a battery-powered version of the brand’s iconic 3-Door Hatch, and manages to retain all of that car’s charm in spades. In fact, with only some yellow touches and a lack of exhaust pipe, it looks near-identical to the petrol versions.
Offering similar performance to a Mini Cooper S, it certainly doesn’t hang about if you want to get your foot down. Available in a range of different trim levels, the Mini Electric boasts a range of up to 145 miles, making it ideal for inner-city use or those not needing to do huge journeys.
Mini has recently expanded its Electric line-up, with the addition of the new Convertible. Essentially a drop-top version of the regular Hatch, it features the same powertrain and similar performance, with the range docked to 125 miles.
Bringing even more fun to the Mini Electric range, a key part of the Convertible’s appeal will be its exclusivity, with just 999 examples being produced worldwide, and only 150 of those will come to the UK. It will be offered in a single high-end specification, coming as standard with a head-up display, leather upholstery and adaptive cruise control.
