Hyundai is a car company that has gone from strength to strength. Ten years ago, you probably wouldn’t have imagined that Hyundai would be creating a range of reliable, good-to-drive and well-finished models that are peppered through various segments from city cars right the way through to SUVs.
In fact, cars like the Kona showed Hyundai in a completely new light. The original Kona tapped into the flourishing crossover segment with its chunky, quirky styling but this was backed up by loads of standard equipment and great build quality.
It’s that sense of value for money that continues to play a key role in Hyundai vehicles. It’s why, across the board, you get superb levels of standard equipment, regardless of the price point you’re looking at. From compact vehicles right the way to cutting-edge EVs, Hyundai’s vehicles all get plenty of systems that can help make everyday life just a little easier and more comfortable.
From 2035, all new Hyundai models sold in the UK will be electric-only – be that battery or fuel cell – as the firm looks to move towards more sustainable practices. Plus, you’ll find a number of eco-friendly materials used in its cars – particularly its EVs – that help to reduce a vehicle’s environmental footprint even more.
All Hyundai models come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. It’s transferable, too, so second-owners can benefit from this manufacturer-backed service should there be some time remaining on it when the vehicle is purchased. Five annual vehicle health checks are also included, ensuring that your car can have a thorough going-over during those initial few years of ownership.
The high-voltage batteries used in Hyundai’s EVs are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles after the date of first registration, too.
All cars are covered with 12 months of breakdown assistance cover, too, though IONIQ 5 and 6 models go above and beyond this, with 24 months of breakdown cover provided from the date of registration. Plus, you can get a further 12 months – or 24 months on the IONIQ 5 and 6 – via Service Activated Roadside Assistance, which gives you more breakdown cover when your vehicle is serviced at an authorised Hyundai site.

One of the key things that has always attracted people to Hyundai is value, but not at the expense of quality. People, of course, want to feel like they’re getting a good deal, but Hyundai has managed to deliver cars that are both more palatable financially but without feeling like bargain-basement. Its latest range of vehicles is a great example of this, as right the way through the range you get loads of equipment without sending prices skywards.
Cars like the family-friendly Tucson also show that Hyundai know how to build the right car for the job. With its family-friendly plastics, large boot and hybrid powertrains, it’s a car that’ll slot into daily duties easily. But on the EV side of things, Hyundai has created some genuinely desirable models that break the mould when it comes to design. The IONIQ 5, for instance, looks like it has time-warped from another century, while the Kona EV’s look is as striking as they come.
That five-year warranty is one of the best, too, and really does show the belief that Hyundai has in the reliability of its cars. It just means you’ve got extra support should something go wrong, too.
Hyundai’s electric car range kicks off with the superbly different IONIQ 5. It’s got the kind of styling that you’ll never fail to find interesting, but underneath there’s a clever new platform which means that the IONIQ 5 can deliver more interior space than you’d expect from this size of car. Two battery options are there to choose from – bringing either 238 or 315 miles of range in small and big-battery versions respectively – while regardless of the model you’ll get super-rapid charging that can deliver a 10 to 80 per cent charge in as little as 18 minutes.
Up next is the sleek IONIQ 6. Hyundai calls it its ‘Electrified Streamliner’, referencing its superbly aerodynamically efficient body. Thanks to that super-sleek body, the IONIQ 6 can return up to 338 miles of range, making it a great option for long-distance drivers. Inside, the inviting cockpit brings loads of space, while those sitting in the back are treated to excellent legroom levels.
The Kona Electric is what you might call the ideal ‘everyday’ EV. Its crossover shape is bang on trend, but it’s able to deliver up to 300 miles of range from its 64kWh battery meaning it’s not just restricted to shorter journeys. The charging port is handily located in the ‘nose’, too, so you can get the front of the car nice and close to the charging unit.
