Vans are absolutely central to Ford’s presence in the UK. If there’s one van beloved more than any other it’s the Transit, after all, with this model having been the go-to commercial vehicle for decades.
Businesses of all shapes and sizes have relied upon the Transit’s unshakeable reliability, while its huge variety of load lengths and heights has meant that it’s a van which can easily be tailored to any type of task. For most people, the Transit has been the only van worth picking.
But how do you translate that success into an electrified age? Well, with Ford that means introducing a vast swathe of new electric commercial vehicles. The Blue Oval has also stated that all of its vans will be ‘zero-emissions capable’ by 2024 - either via fully electric or hybrid setups - so in the run-up to that deadline it’s quickly expanding its range of electrified vehicles. It has, of course, always had a reputation for variety - and a van for every type of job - so this expansion only works to tie in with its time-honoured character.
Ford may have been on the back foot when it came to electrified vehicles initially, but it has quickly made up for this with a series of models that incorporate some of the very latest battery technology available. The future is looking very bright for Ford’s commercial line-up, that’s for sure, but its current range of vehicles is still incredibly impressive when it comes to its electric powertrains.
Each new Ford is accompanied by a three-year warranty, with a mileage cap of 100,000 miles. You can also extend this warranty via a Ford Protect Commercial Extended Warranty which includes an additional year of mechanical and electrical coverage.
Plus, all models get one year of AA Roadside Assistance as standard, but this is also boosted by an extra 12 months with the Extended Warranty service.
Ford also offers an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty on its electric vehicles, covering components that are unique to EVs. These include the high-voltage battery.

Ford’s reputation has been built on reliability. If you need a van that’s going to be ready to go at the turn of the key each and every time then the Blue Oval has always been the best option. Throughout the years the Transit has become a household name, as a result, and has played a key part in many lives.
The flexibility that Ford’s vans offer has also been a big factor in their popularity. As well as the obvious options such as paint and wheels, there are so many variations in platforms, heights and lengths that there’s always been a Ford van for a specific task.
But Ford has also got a growing reputation for electrification. As we’ve touched upon, it has already made a significant commitment to battery power - something reflected in its passenger car line-up, too - but the Blue Oval has already made strides to integrate it into its commercial range. It makes a huge amount of sense, in truth, as it allows drivers to lower their bills through low-cost charging and the ability to bypass emissions charges without doing without the same level of practicality that you’d expect from a ‘traditionally’ powered van.
Plus, you can still tailor one of Ford’s electric vans so that it can suit any type of application, so that same level of versatility isn’t lost.
Ford’s electric van range kicks off with the E-Transit Custom. A much-loved commercial model, the ‘regular’ Transit seemed ripe for electrification, which is why we have this new battery-powered model. Bringing a range of up to 236 miles, the E-Transit Custom is great for jobs further afield, yet it’s still got loads of space and plenty of payload capacity. Ford’s sharp new Sync 4 infotainment system relays all of the key information you need - such as media and navigation - right back to you via a clear display, too.
We’ve then got the larger E-Transit, which uses a 68kWh battery to deliver up to 196 miles of range from a full charge. It’s available in two height and three length configurations, offering up to 15.1 cubic metres of cargo space. In total, you can get the E-Transit in one of 25 different configurations so there’s a version to suit all kinds of jobs. It also gets Ford’s Sync 4 system, accessed via a sharp 12-inch touchscreen display.
