If Citroen is forging an electric path with its passenger car range, it’s practically flying ahead with its commercial vehicles. It’s one of the frontrunners of the segment, in truth, bringing a wide-spanning number of battery-powered vans that are ideally suited to users looking to reduce their fuel usage. In fact, it now has a seriously strong line-up of electric vans that can slot into all manner of jobs and applications.
They’re a great way of circumnavigating inner-city emissions charges and low-emissions zones, reducing costs for businesses without forsaking outright usability or space. This range is a real showcase of Citroen’s path towards electrification, too, with the French firm planning to have an electrified version of every single model in its range available to buy by 2025. It’s a testament to the brand’s commitment to EVs that this covers commercial vehicles, too.
But the fitment of an electric battery hasn’t stopped Citroen’s vans from being any less usable than their petrol and diesel-powered counterparts. In fact, clever integration of the battery and electric motors means that they’re still able to offer loads of usable space ideal for taking on different jobs. Plus, Citroen offers a variety of load lengths and heights so there will always be an electric van for the job.
Every new Citroen commercial vehicle comes with a three-year or 100,000-mile warranty. It’s transferable between owners, too, so those after a nearly-new example can still get one with some warranty left intact. During that period, Citroen will repair or replace any faulty parts, while the first five years are also covered for corrosion.
Electric vehicles are accompanied by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty for the battery, which covers performance up to 70 per cent of the original capacity.
There’s full breakdown cover included for that warranty period, while Citroen also offers free lifetime breakdown assistance providing that servicing is carried out within the brand’s network each year. It covers loss of keys and even the keys being locked in the car, while cover extends throughout the European Union and 15 other countries, too.

Citroen’s electric vans centre around a lack of compromise. The fitment of an electric powertrain doesn’t mean that these models are any less capable at carrying loads than their petrol or diesel equivalents, so there’s no real drawback to making the switch to an electric version. In fact, models like the E-Dispatch have a payload volume that is identical to internal combustion engine versions.
As with ‘ordinary’ vans, choice is very important in the Citroen electric commercial vehicle line-up. It’s why models like the E-Relay are offered in four lengths and three heights, ensuring that there’s a version to suit any kind of job. Plus, it’s capable of taking a payload of up to four tonnes, meaning it’s got those heavyweight tasks sorted too.
These models, as we’ve touched upon, mean that you’ve got uninterrupted access to some of the UK’s busiest – but most restricted – areas. Low emissions zones are becoming more commonplace across the country, with all of them only giving free access to battery-powered models. Since vans are often a must-have mode of transport in busy city areas, they’re often the first to be hit with any additional charges, but these models bypass them thanks to their zero-emissions setup.
Citroen’s electric commercial range kicks off with the E-Dispatch. It’s available with two battery options - 50kWh or 75kWh - returning 143 or 205 miles of range respectively. Plus, it can be fast charged up to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes, meaning that only quick stops at the plug are required to get you on the road again.
There are loads of accessories available for the Dispatch that can tailor it to the job in hand, too, such as a boot bag that’ll stop your tool kit from rolling over or an interior tablet holder so you can have a sturdy place to check documents when you stop.
You’ve then got the larger e-Relay. Offering a range of up to 154 miles when equipped with its largest 75kWh battery option, it’s the ideal electric large van and one which is available in four lengths and three heights. It’s capable of carrying a payload of up to 1,890kg, while charging via a 7kW home unit can be completed overnight.
Hook it up to a 50kW rapid charger and an 80 per cent charge can be sorted in just 30 minutes. Surprisingly brisk acceleration means that the e-Relay has more than enough performance to keep up with busy city traffic.
We’ve then got the modular e-Spacetourer. As well as a range of up to 136 miles thanks to a 50kWh battery, the e-Spacetourer has seating for up to nine people which makes it a very versatile option when it comes to people-moving. Like others here, it can quickly charge to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes.
