Toyota might not be the most obvious choice when it comes to the van market, but this Japanese firm has plenty of experience when it comes to commercial models – not least with its impressive Hilux pick-up.
Its latest crop of vans are those produced by automotive empire Stellantis, which includes firms like Peugeot and Vauxhall, with these models being right at the cutting edge of commercial vehicles. As a result, Toyota has also been able to benefit from its electric models in the form of the Proace City and the larger Proace.
Renowned for their reliability, Toyota’s models also have some of the best warranty and roadside assistance of any van manufacturer, and are a significant differentiator next to other commercial vehicles on the market.
As standard new Toyota models come with a three-year manufacturer warranty. However, the firm has a key selling point in the fact that if you continue to have your vehicle serviced at one of the firm’s dealers, the warranty is extended by 12 months or 10,000 miles each time it visits the garage. This continues up to 10 years and 100,000 miles, giving Toyota the most comprehensive warranty of any manufacturer.
Toyota’s new commercial vehicles also come with an impressive five years of free roadside assistance, which again can be extended by having a service carried out at one of the Japanese firm’s dealers.

Toyota has a particularly good reputation for its vehicles’ reliability and also its aftercare service. If you continue to have your Toyota van serviced at one of the firm’s dealers, each year will extend the warranty by another year, with this going on for up to an impressive 10 years. The five years free roadside assistance is also more generous than plenty of other firms.
While the brand might be best-known for its rugged Hilux pick-up, its latest electric vans are particularly competitive, offering quick 100kW charging speeds as well as ranges of up to 205 miles in the case of the Proace. Even the smaller Proace City model is still able to achieve up to 171 miles from a charge, however.
Toyota’s electric vans are generously equipped, especially when you opt for higher-spec models. In the case of the Proace, for example, the Design grade model boasts luxuries like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and keyless entry to name just a few features.
Toyota offers two electric vans in its range – the Proace City and larger Proace. Highlights of each are as follows.
If you don’t need an especially large van, it’s worth taking a look at the Proace City Electric. This relatively compact commercial model offers plenty in the way of standard equipment and boasts an 800kg payload, which is good for a vehicle of this size. Equipped with a 50kWh battery, Toyota claims a range of up to 171 miles.
The Proace was the first EV to come from Toyota, and is a particularly appealing choice for businesses, owing to its larger size that allows for a payload of up to 1,226kg. It’s also able to tow 1,000kg. Available with a choice of 50kWh and 75kWh battery sizes, these offer claimed ranges of up to 142 miles and 205 miles respectively.
