In years gone by MG was a renowned British car brand, famed for its sporting models, including the MGB and the more recent TF. But today’s MG is slightly different. Now owned by a Chinese automotive giant called SAIC, but with a design centre in London, MG is one of the fastest-growing car firms in the UK, with its range of models – especially EVs – going down a treat with buyers.
With a range now comprising of five different models, ranging from superminis to family SUVs, it increasingly has plenty to offer buyers. Its latest and greatest models are also packed full of technology and creature comforts, with every car MG makes being especially well equipped.
Value for money remains a buzzword at MG too, with all its cars undercutting the opposition by a significant chunk of money.
MG stands out with one of the longest warranties in the business, with all of its cars from September 2019 being supplied with a warranty lasting up to seven years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes sooner. There’s no mileage limit in the first year, either.
MG guarantees repair replacement or adjustment, free of charge, on any parts included in the warranty, as well as paint repair surfaces. The full small print can be found here.
Electric and hybrid MGs have the same warranty terms, with the firm guaranteeing that the battery capacity will not fall below 70 per cent during this time.
As for roadside assistance, all new MGs come with a year of roadside assistance free of charge supplied by the AA. Following the initial year, when you take your MG back to the dealer for every scheduled service, if you choose the option, you’ll receive a further 12 months of breakdown cover. Even if you choose not to do this, the AA will provide MG owners with an exclusive 15 per cent discount on renewals.

Value for money is perhaps the top reason to consider an MG. Both its petrol and electrified models are available at astonishingly low prices compared to other mainstream brands – often undercutting them by several thousand pounds in many instances. Yet there’s no sacrifice on equipment, with all MGs coming with a vast amount of kit as standard.
Considering the low prices, however, MGs are still available with a great range of safety features and technology. The MG Pilot system, which comes as standard on the electric ZS EV, MG4 and MG5 – brings adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane assist to all models, and it’s one of the better-performing driver assistance features. MG has also been rolling out its new touchscreen and digital dials, which look smart and are also easy to use too.
MG’s warranty is also one of the best in the business, with all its cars – regardless of fuel type coming with seven years of cover, though with a relatively low cap of 80,000 miles, considering the number of years of cover. That said, it’s still noticeably more than the three years, 60,000-mile warranty offered by most new car brands.
MG has become known as the ‘go to’ brand when it comes to affordable electric cars, with three different EVs on offer. Let’s take a look at what's available.
If value for money is a priority, you shouldn’t look any further than the MG4. It’s one of the most affordable new electric cars on the market, and has been a true game-changer in the EV segment. Available in a standard guise or ‘Long Range’, these models offer claimed electric ranges of up to 218 and 281 miles, respectively. Offering a futuristic design and modern, minimalist interior and an enjoyable driving experience, the MG4 is one of the best electric cars on the market.

The ZS EV was MG’s first electric car back in 2019 and helped to get this brand’s battery-powered models off to a terrific start. The ZS EV sits alongside petrol versions of this crossover, and offers a practical interior and generous equipment levels. MG has recently upgraded it too, giving it a smarter look and installing larger batteries, meaning it’s now able to travel up to 273 miles on a single charge.
