While Mercedes might be especially well-known for its premium cars, the brand is also coveted in the commercial vehicle market and is widely considered as one of the best van makers around.
Known for models like the Sprinter and Vito, its vans are renowned for their quality and usability and are chosen by many fleets for that reason. That three-pointed star on the front end is a status symbol in the van market, with many of its vans are available with some of the high-end creature comforts seen on its passenger cars, including heated seats and leather upholstery.
Mercedes has also broken into the growing electric commercial vehicle line-up, with its vehicles proving popular choices already. There’s the eVito, as well as the passenger-ready eVito Tourer, while at the top of the range sits the firm’s flagship eSprinter – one of the most important vans around, and one that’s now available as an EV too.
All new Mercedes vans are supplied with a three-year warranty from the day it was registered, and there’s no mileage limit on this, which is why its commercial models are often chosen by big fleets that clock up especially high mileages. On electric Mercedes vans, the firm guarantees the battery for eight years and 160,000km (99,500 miles), whichever comes sooner.
Mercedes also has its own dedicated roadside assistance, known as MobiloVan, which is Europe-wide. New models come with three years of cover, with this service known to be one of the best around. Trained technicians will only use genuine Mercedes parts, while ‘out of charge cover’ is even included for its electric vans.

Mercedes manages to carry over many of the strengths of its premium passenger cars to its vans, with a key selling point being its models’ comfort. Particularly in the case of the large Sprinter, it offers ride quality on par with many cars, and makes it ideal for those that spend a lot of time behind the wheel.
Mercedes aftercare also leads the way, with its vans being supplied with an unlimited mileage warranty for starters. The firm also has its own dedicated ‘MobiloVan’ roadside assistance vans that only work on the brand’s products, as well as using genuine Mercedes parts. The firm’s network of approved dealers also open much longer than the typical dealer hours, while a third of its garages are open 24/7 to help keep you and your business moving.
Mercedes also offers more choice than many other van manufacturers, with the option of the large e-Sprinter or the mid-size eVito, which is available as a regular panel van or a passenger-carrying model – the latter offering an impressive range of up to 221 miles. Later this year Mercedes will grow its line-up with the introduction of the smaller eCitan van, an ideal option for those not needing a huge amount of space.
Mercedes currently offers three electric vans – the eSprinter, eVito Panel Van and eVito Tourer. Let’s take a look at what each has to offer.
The Sprinter remains Mercedes’ most popular model, and it’s easy to see why the firm decided to introduce an electric model to expand its appeal. Designed primarily for urban use, the eSprinter is restricted by a relatively small 55kWh battery, allowing for a claimed range of 95 miles. Its payload stands at 731kg.
The Vito has been a key part of Mercedes’ van line-up for some years, and more recently customers have been able to choose it with an electric powertrain. Packing a 66kWh battery, Mercedes claims it can travel up to 162 miles on a charge, while the battery can be rapid charged up to 80 per cent in just 35 minutes. Available in two body lengths, it offers a payload of up to 807kg.
You can also choose the eVito as a passenger-carrying derivative in the form of the Tourer. With seats for up to nine adults, it offers a great deal of room, and would be an ideal choice for both large families and as a taxi or minicab, for example. The Tourer is also fitted with a larger 100kWh battery, which allows for an impressive range of 221 miles, which is more than the majority of its rivals.
