Think of BMW and what springs to mind? Performance vehicles, perhaps, or iconic classics like the 2002 and M1? Whatever you’re thinking of, it’s likely that high-quality vehicles with boatloads of driving character will be coming into thought. That’s still the same today, of course, and this heritage is being quickly infused into BMW’s new range of electric vehicles.
Though quick off the mark with the original i3 and the striking i8, BMW did wait a little while before diving back into the EV segment. However, these days it’s pushing really hard with its battery-powered models. Yet despite their electric underpinnings, BMW’s range of EVs still has that all-important dynamic driving experience that you’d be expecting.
BMW’s range now includes practicality-focused models like the iX3, or more performance-orientated EVs like the i4. Throughout the line-up, you’re getting some of the latest technology that BMW has to offer, from ultra-wide infotainment screens to ultra-clever assistance systems.
All BMW models are accompanied by a three-year unlimited mileage warranty, with any work required completed at a BMW Authorised Workshop. When it comes to BMW’s ‘i’ - or electric - range of vehicles, you get the same three-year warranty for the whole car, but there’s some extra cover for the electrical components.
A BMW electric vehicle’s battery is covered for up to eight years or 100,000 miles - whichever comes first. This warranty covers against failure of the high-voltage battery as a result of manufacturing defects. Just the same as the three-year standard warranty, the BMW i battery warranty is fully transferable to subsequent owners of the vehicle, too.
All BMWs get three years of complimentary roadside assistance from the point of registration, with 24-hour assistance there to help you to get back on the move again.

BMW has decades worth of heritage to pitch into its latest cars. But while incorporating a couple of trademark BMW styling touches, the look and feel of these new models lean far more on the futuristic side of things. Whichever model you opt for, however, you’re getting the same great build quality that you get with all BMW models.
Incorporated into all of BMW’s latest electric models is loads of technology. The new BMW iX and i4, for example, make use of BMW’s latest Operating System 8, which brings loads of features and connectivity options to the infotainment system. A new ‘Curved Display’ is a particularly striking new addition, too, as it brings together two separate screens under one continuous display. It’s a bit like having the latest tablet right in front of you.
Regardless of which BMW model you opt for, they’ve all been tailored to provide the best possible driving experience too. From well-weighted steering to tuned suspension, you’re sure to get a dynamic drive in every one of BMW’s latest EVs. Plus, cars like the i4 M50 with its ultra-powerful electric motors, can give some of the current crop of petrol-powered sports cars a real run for their money.
BMW offers a wide choice of electric models already. Let’s take a look at the highlights.
BMW’s electric vehicle range will soon kick off with the new iX1. An electric version of the latest X1, it’s got a range of up to 270 miles and has loads of family-friendly features such as a cabin with loads of storage options and plenty of space, too.
We then move up to the iX3. It’s much the same in terms of design as the standard X3, while its interior - which is also similar to the petrol and diesel-powered version - is very user-friendly and easy to get used to. Plus, you’ve got a large boot that’ll easily swallow up suitcases or a whole lot of shopping.
Up next is the i4. It’s best to think of this as an electric alternative to the standard 4 Series, which means it’s got a comfort-focused interior and a sportier driving style than you might expect. It’s got a really impressive range of up to 365 miles, too, so it’s a great option for drivers who want a long-distance EV.
Things get a whole more luxurious as we move to the BMW i7. The largest electric saloon that BMW has to offer, the i7 has all of the limousine-like features that you’d expect from the 7 Series but with an electric setup that can deliver up to 374 miles from a charge. Plus, you can have it with an amazing ‘Cinema’ style screen which stretches across the entire width of the car’s interior to give the rear-seat passengers a full movie-style experience.
The iX is BMW’s largest electric SUV and with all that extra space you can be sure that it has been brimmed with features. You get that aforementioned Curved Display, but underneath all of that technology you’ve got a car with up to 380 miles of range. Plus, all versions get BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system for even better traction in poor conditions.
Thinking of leasing a new BMW electric car? View some of our most frequently asked questions below.
The answer is Yes, and certainly as far as our health is concerned. Electric cars produce zero emissions from the tailpipe and significantly less emissions over their lifetime than traditional petrol or diesel powered cars. Additionally, many electric utility companies produce electricity using renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, which further reduces the environmental impact of electric cars.
As with most car manufacturers, BMW is relentlessly driving forward, continuously innovating to increase the range of its electric vehicles. Currently, there are two contenders leading the pack in terms of electric BMW cars with the longest range:
BMW iX xDrive50: This SUV stands tall with an approximate maximum range of 380 miles on a single charge, courtesy of its sizable 105.2kWh battery pack.
BMW i7 xDrive60: Offering a remarkably similar range of up to 387 miles, this luxury saloon shares the limelight and is also powered by a substantial battery pack (105.7kWh).
