You may have known Cupra as the go-faster arm of Seat, but in recent years it has forged its own path and become a standalone brand in its own right. Far from just creating more powerful versions of Seat vehicles, Cupra now has its own dedicated range of models which bring a dynamic look and feel alongside some very clever new technology.
But because Cupra is based within the wider Volkswagen Group, it’s able to access some of the very latest systems, features and engines available today. But, more importantly, that means it has been able to release its own electric vehicle - the Born - which takes some of the learnings of Volkswagen’s vehicles and injects them with some distinctly Spanish flair.
And much like Cupra’s previous Seat-based models, these new models are designed with a really sporty feel. Agile handling and head-turning design touches combine to make cars which both look and feel really special.
All of Cupra’s new cars come with a two-year warranty with unlimited mileage, followed by a third year of warranty until the vehicle reaches 60,000 miles. When it comes to electric vehicles, these have their batteries covered for eight years or 100,000 miles - whichever comes first. They’re covered for ‘excessive loss of net battery energy’ so, if measured and found to be less than 70 per cent during the warranty period, then it will be replaced by Cupra.
New cars come with two years of included breakdown assistance, with drivers able to get help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Also, in cars where it is fitted, the ‘B-call’ function - accessed via a button above the dashboard - automatically sends the vehicle’s data when pressed to quickly help solve the issue.

As we’ve touched upon, one of the main things to know about Cupra is the sporty angle that it takes with its cars. Particularly in the case of styling, Cupra’s vehicles stand out from the crowd with a range of eye-catching features such as copper-coloured elements and intricate wheel designs. Inside, these are followed through - you’ll even find those copper trim pieces throughout the cabin.
But Cupra is also really focused on electrification. Cupra will be a fully electric brand by 2030 after which point it will only sell battery-powered models. Already, Cupra has showcased what’s in store with a range of exciting concepts, including the striking UrbanRebel. But in the here and now, Cupra is already bringing some next-generation features such as a high-definition touchscreen in the Born.
Currently, Cupra has just one electric vehicle on sale - the Born. However, as its core model, the Born has a range of features that make it a very interesting EV. For instance, it has been designed to be the sportier cousin to the Volkswagen ID.3 and Skoda Enyaq - with which the Born shares a platform - which means it gets a slightly more dynamic suspension setup to improve road-holding through the bends.
Inside, it’s got a large central touchscreen and a secondary display ahead of the driver. The latter provides key information such as remaining range and speed, while the main display is where you access media and navigation functions.
Big battery versions of the Born can return up to 343 miles from a single charge, while they’ll also manage the 0-60mph sprint in an impressive 6.4 seconds. The Born can also charge at speeds of up to 125kW, meaning that when it’s hooked up to a suitably speedy charger, could return a 20 to 80 per cent charge in around 30 minutes. An overnight charge on a 7kW home wallbox is more than enough to fully charge the Born, too.
All versions get loads of standard equipment including adaptive cruise control, a rear-view parking camera and 18-inch machined alloy wheels. For that sporty feel, all versions get bucket seats trimmed in a special material called Seaqual yarn - it’s made from recycled plastic recovered from the oceans.
