There has never been a better time to get behind the wheel of an electric car. Here at My Electric Lease, we’re specialists in all things EV and, time and time again, we see fans of both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Skoda Enyaq.

Each of these electric cars offers loads of equipment and some clever in-car features, but how do they compare and which one could work for you? Let’s take a look.

How does the range compare?

Range is a huge part of the overall EV experience, but the good news is that both the Skoda Enyaq and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 offer a decent number of miles between trips to the plug. In the Ioniq 5, you can get up to 354 miles of range in certain models, courtesy of a large 84kWh battery. In the Skoda, you’re looking at an even longer range of up to 374 miles, too.

What about charge speed, though? Well, the Enyaq can accept a top whack charge rate of up to 175kW, which will result in a 10 to 80 per cent charge taking 27 minutes. It’s here where the Ioniq 5 really does well, though. It’s got 800-volt capability, which means it can accept a rapid charge of 350kW. That helps it to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes.

What about standard equipment?

Both of these cars aren’t going to leave you wanting for more equipment, that’s for sure. First, let’s look at the Hyundai. In Advance trim, you’re getting a 12.3-inch infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included as standard, while features such as dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and intelligent cruise control come equipped from the off.

Then, there’s the Enyaq’s list of equipment. Sportline models currently available on My Electric Lease bring a 13-inch infotainment display and an upgraded Canton sound system, alongside tri-zone climate control and heated front seats. Both of these cars also get a dedicated smartphone app which allows you to remotely heat up or cool down the cabin, and even see functions such as the charge state of teh car.

Are there sporty versions?

If you’re after a little extra performance, then you’re in luck. Hyundai’s sporty ‘N’ department has worked its magic on the Ioniq 5, to create the - you guessed it - Ioniq 5 N. It’s a proper hot-hatch, too, with a dedicated all-wheel-drive system and a variety of crazy technologies, including a simulated gear shift which recreates the sound and feel of a traditional paddle gearshifter.

Then, you’ve got the Skoda Enyaq vRS. This, like the Hyundai, has a four-wheel-drive system and a dedicated suspension setup which includes the brand’s Dynamic Chassis Control for a more controlled ride.

Are they both practical?

If you’re after practicality, then both of these cars make great options. In the Enyaq, you get 585 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,710 litres by folding down the rear seats. In classic Skoda fashion, there are loads of ‘Simply Clever’ features dotted throughout the cabin to help keep things tidy, including door bins and a handy divider on the floor between the rear seats.

Switch to the Ioniq 5 and though you do get a slightly smaller boot of 527 litres, this car has a handy trick up its sleeve - a dedicated ‘frunk’ at the front which is ideal for keeping the charging cables in.
