Why Are Kids Obsessed With Tesla And Electric Cars

Why are kids so obsessed with Tesla's and electric cars?

Though many older generations are struggling to get on board with EVs, kids are really finding their feet with battery-powered models. Though they’re not of the age to drive just yet, kids can still have a real interest in cars and EVs, it would seem, come high up the list of most-interesting models.

Here, we’re going to take a look at why kids are behind electric cars - and the features that must be keeping them interested.

Loads of technology

Kids love technology and EVs are usually the most high-tech cars about. Of course, there’s that electric setup underneath, but the vast majority of battery-powered models also come with plenty of other features that can keep keen button-pressers happy.

Plus, the vast majority of EVs can connect to an owner’s smartphone - so your kid could cool, heat or even flash the lights of your car with your phone.

Green features

Kids have a great focus on the environment than ever before. Fortunately, a number of electric cars tie in with this, too, as they’ve got far ‘greener’ materials used throughout. The latest Volvo EVs, for instance, use wool-based fabrics for their seats rather than leather.

Plus, though there’s still some debate about the environmental impact of an EV’s batteries, they do have a direct impact on lowering CO2 emissions on a daily basis - so they do have a way of lowering ‘local’ emissions such as those in towns and cities.

Cool designs

You’ll find some of the most off-the-wall designs in the EV segment and they often reflect the cutting-edge battery and motor setups that they employ. Take the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with its retro-inspired look or the Mercedes EQS which has been designed entirely to be as aerodynamic as possible.

There are some more traditional looks too, but across the board in the EV segment you’ll find some really eye-catching designs.

In-car games

Some of the new electric cars available allow you to play games inside the car, too, meaning that you’re never without an element of competition.

Tesla’s range of cars, for example, allows you to play games or watch Netflix while you’re parked up, while vehicle-to-load technology on cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 means you can connect three-pin devices - like a games console, for example - and power it through the car’s own battery.

Self-driving features

Though, as we’ve mentioned, kids are too young to fully get behind the wheel that isn’t going to stop them thinking about the future of all things four-wheels. One key aspect of the new technology we’re seeing on EVs is self-driving functionality.

Now legislation means that self-driving features aren’t fully allowed in the UK - not for sustained periods of time, that is - but changes to rules have recently meant that Ford’s new hands-off tech can be used in certain areas. It’s likely to be something that kids can really get on board with.
