What does the future have in store for Polestar?

Future Polestar Cars

Polestar is one of the most exciting car brands around at the moment. You might remember that a little while ago it was responsible for creating go-faster Volvo models but, since becoming a brand in its own right, it has quickly risen to become one of the core fully-electric car makers in the market.

While it may have had the Polestar 2 as a core model for some time now, the next few years are going to be very busy for Polestar as a range of new models hit the market. Let’s check them out.

Polestar 3

Polestar 3

The 3 will arrive as Polestar’s first electric SUV and it goes up against a number of strong rivals. However, this third model in the Swedish firm’s line-up will launch with a potent dual-motor setup with 480bhp and 840Nm of torque, enabling a 0-60mph time of just under five seconds and a top speed of 130mph.

Plus, Polestar says that you should get up to 379 miles from a single charge while a clever 400-volt power setup means that the Polestar 3 can be rapid charged at speeds of up to 250kW - though no official charging times have been released as yet.

Arriving soon is the new Polestar 4. It’s a coupe-styled SUV which arrives into a very competitive segment, but Polestar is hoping that it stands out thanks to a number of cool features and battery setups. It follows a similar format to the 3, but has a more eye-catching approach to styling for drivers who like to make a statement.

It nearly matches the 3’s range at 376 miles, too, while UK cars get boatloads of standard features including a 14.7-inch head-up display, 14-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system and Pixel LED headlights.

Polestar 5

Polestar isn’t wasting any time and will also introduce its 5 saloon soon. Unveiled in full at the Polestar Day event in Los Angeles late last year, the 5 will get an impressive 874bhp from a dual-motor setup while its slippery design helps it to cut through the air as efficiently as possible.

It’s got a massive full-width rear light bar and something that a lot of drivers might find strange to begin with - no rear window.

Polestar 6

The Polestar 6 is an elegant drop-top which uses the same platform as the 5, but is draped with a far more dramatic exterior. An initial build run of 500 special ‘LA Concept’ models sold out just a week after its first public appearance, showcasing the impact that this car has had.

Expected to arrive on the roads in 2026, the Polestar 6 takes many design cues from the striking ‘O2’ concept.

Extreme Fast charging

Charging is a core part of using an electric vehicle and it’s an area where Polestar is looking to really improve things. In fact, it is already targeting ‘extreme’ fast charging which could add up to 100 miles of range to an EV in as little as five minutes.

Developed in partnership with battery specialist StoreDot, the new technology has been designed to integrate into battery packs that Polestar already has in development, rather than from scratch. In doing so, it means that this technology could hit the roads far quicker than usual.

More Geely backing

Chinese powerhouse Geely is one of the main backers of Polestar - as well as other brands such as Lotus and Volvo - and it has recently been announced that the firm could be come the primary shareholder for Polestar, with Volvo potentially dropping back from a less central role in the company.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said recently: “We look forward to continued cooperation with Volvo Cars as well as benefiting from even greater synergies with Geely on future orientated technologies.”
