What models has BYD got to offer?

BYD electric car line-up

There are lots and lots of Chinese car manufacturers making their way over to Europe and the UK, and one of the most successful is BYD.

Having launched in the UK only last year, the firm has introduced four new models to the market with more set to follow in the future.

The brand is certainly becoming more and more popular with its cars and it’s undoubtedly one of the most well-known of all the new Chinese brands making its way over to our shores.

We’ve compiled a list of all the models that are in the BYD range to show you what this rapidly expanding brand has to offer.

Dolphin

BYD Dolphin

The firm’s smallest and most affordable car is the Dolphin. It rivals cars like the MG4 and Volkswagen ID.3.

Priced from £26,195 for the basic Active trim, the Dolphin represents great value for money while offering an acceptable driving experience, decent cabin materials and good interior space with plenty of head and leg room for occupants. Its boot space stands at 345 litres or 1,310 litres with the rear bench folded down, too.

Seal

BYD Seal

The Seal is the firm’s most luxurious car in its range and was one of the first models to go on sale in the UK.

It takes on cars like the BMW i4, Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. Prices start at £45,695, making this Chinese saloon cheaper than almost all its rivals. Plus, it comes with the firm’s well-known rotatable infotainment screen, has decent quality materials throughout its cabin and a decent electric range of up to 354 miles for the rear-wheel-drive model.

Seal U

BYD Seal U

It may sound like another version of the Seal saloon, but in fact, the Seal U couldn’t be any more different than the former. The Seal U is the brand’s first model to be offered in the UK with a plug-in hybrid option.

You will still be able to opt for an electric model, but the PHEV version comes with a choice of two battery packs, such as an 18.3kWh that enables the car to run up to 32 miles on electric power or there is a larger 26.6kWh unit that BYD claims can do up to 77 miles on battery driving. All the PHEV models come with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The Seal U is also very practical, has decent interior quality and has plenty of standard equipment.

Atto 3

BYD Atto 3

The Atto 3 was the first BYD to come over to our shores and it has the Hyundai Kona electric and Kia Niro EV in its sights. Prices start from £36,500 and rise to £39,000 for the flagship example.

This BYD comes with a choice of two battery sizes. There is a smaller and more affordable 48kWh or you can have a larger 60.5kWh battery pack with an electric motor that gives a claimed range of up to 205 miles.
