These are some of the key things you need to know about BYD’s Dolphin

BYD Dolphin Key Features

BYD is quickly ramping up its presence here in the UK, delivering a number of feature-packed vehicles which put a real focus on electrification while bringing some eye-catching styling touches.

The Dolphin is arguably one of its most practicality-focused BYD models, but what does it have to offer and why should you be considering it? Let’s take a look.

Plenty of range

BYD has some of the best battery know-how in the business and that’s something it has been using to great effect in its line-up of cars. The Dolphin follows on from the Atto 3 and thanks to a 60.5kWh battery, it can return up to 265 miles of range from a single charge.

There’s also a smaller-battery version with a 44.9kWh unit which delivers up to 211 miles in between trips to the plug.

Different trim levels

The Dolphin is available in a series of trim levels - Comfort and Design. All versions get a clever large infotainment screen which can be rotated from portrait to landscape at the touch of a button, while a variety of connected car functions give access to a variety of media and navigation systems.

A full-length panoramic sunroof helps to bring more light into the cabin, while all versions also get alloy wheels for a more upmarket look.

Lots of space and storage

BYD has always put an emphasis on the storage in its cars and the Dolphin is no different. Thanks to its clever platform, there are loads of handy pockets and cubbies, including a storage tray under the infotainment screen which is ideal for storing those looser items.

Big door pockets combine with a central covered storage cubby to help keep the Dolphin as tidy as can be.

Quality materials and good legroom

Throughout the interior of the Dolphin, you’ll find a hard-wearing vegan leather which provides a high-quality finish which still feels high-end. Up front, there are sport seats with multi-way adjustment, ensuring that you can get comfy no matter your size.

With its clever platform underneath, the BYD manages to feature a long wheelbase but with a compact overall body size while inside there’s more space than you might expect. A completely flat floor helps to make the Dolphin feel particularly spacious.

Plenty of charge points

There’s something that the occupants of a car frequently need and that’s a place to recharge their devices. Fortunately, that’s well catered for in the Dolphin, as you’ll find two USB-C points at the front and two in the rear of the car as well.

Plus, top-spec Design models also benefit from smartphone wireless charging, so all you need to do is drop your compatible smartphone into the charging tray and it’ll start to top-up wirelessly.

Lots of boot space

Something you also want from a practical hatchback is a well-sized boot and, fortunately, that’s something the Dolphin can deliver. In fact, you’ve got 345 litres of boot space as standard, but fold the rear seats down and this extends to 1,310 so that it can accommodate those larger items as well.

It ties in well with the overall spaciousness of the Dolphin and means you’re not restricted to only taking smaller items along with you.
