Why choose SsangYong?

SsangYong is a lesser-known firm here in the UK, but has built up a loyal customer base that values its products. Based in South Korea, the brand specialises in SUVs and crossover, as that is all it sells.

Known for long-running products like the Korando and Rexton, as well as its popular Musso pick-up, SsangYong recently took the next step and launched its first electrified model in the form of the Korando e-Motion EV, jumping the gun as it hadn’t previously even offered any hybrids, which is the traditional route manufacturers go down before introducing all-electric models.

SsangYong is known for its value for money, long warranty and generous equipment levels, and those are traits that the Korando e-Motion retains too.

What is the warranty and breakdown cover like on a SsangYong? What does it cover?

New petrol and diesel SsangYongs are supplied with a warranty lasting five years and 100,000 miles, with the brand recently cutting back on the previous seven-year cover it offered.

However, on the electric Korando e-Motion, the seven-year warranty remains for up to 90,000 miles, whichever comes sooner. It helps to cover any faulty arts, materials or workmanship in this period, while the high voltage battery would be repaired or replaced if the capacity falls under 70 per cent in the warranty period.

SsangYong also offers 12 months free roadside assistance, supplied by the RAC, covering the UK and mainland Europe.

What are the key selling points for SsangYong?

Value for money has always been at the heart of what SsangYong is about, with its range of models always undercutting the majority of the opposition. That’s especially true of the electric Korando e-Motion, which has a list price that’s especially competitive.

The level of standard equipment you get with a new SsangYong is especially generous too, with all models coming with dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and whole range of driver assistance features. As you move up through the trim line-up it gains elements like heated and ventilated front seats, as well as a heat pump and electric boot, which is well in excess of the kit you’d get with some of the Korando’s rivals.

SsangYong’s warranty, especially on its electric models, is particularly comprehensive and gives more years of coverage than you would get with plenty of mainstream competitors, which are typically supplied with a three-year warranty, rather than the seven years that the Korando e-Motion comes with.

Electric car model highlights. What’s in the SsangYong range and what’s popular?

SsangYong currently offers just one model – the Korando e-Motion. Here’s what you need to know.

Korando e-Motion

The latest SsangYong Korando arrived in 2019, and is arguably the best product ever to come from this South Korean firm. Bringing a far more modern design, cutting-edge technology and a more premium-feeling interior, the petrol and diesel versions were joined in 2021 by the electric Korando e-Motion.

With a slightly different design – there’s an EV-specific front grille, various blue accents and new alloy wheels – it’s suitably different to the combustion-powered models, but without needing to shout about the way it looks. As for the powertrain, it uses a front-mounted 188bhp electric motor paired to a 61.5kWh battery, allowing for a claimed range of 211 miles, as well as competitive 100kW DC rapid charging that can see the battery charged from 10 to 80 per cent in around 40 minutes.
