These are some of the electric cars with the longest ranges

Range anxiety is the Achilles heel of battery-electric vehicles, but thanks to improved technology, more research and falling costs, modern EVs now can provide a good amount of range between trips to the plug.

The days are gone when an electric car had a range of 50-100 miles and required an incredibly long time to charge up. As battery life has improved, degradation isn’t so much an issue.

In fact, if you’re after an electric vehicle with 300 miles of range or more you’re quite well catered for. So, here is our list of the top five EVs on sale with the best electric range

Tesla Model 3 - 300-391 miles

Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 is one of the best-selling electric cars in the world, and it’s easy to see why. Not only will it give you over 300 miles of range on any model you choose, but it’s also Tesla’s cheapest model in their line-up.

And to top it all, 2024 saw the launch of the revised Model 3, which gives you an updated exterior design and, if you go for the Long Range model, its range has increased from 374 miles to 391 miles between charges.

Tesla Model S - 394 miles

Tesla Model S

Just a little bit further up the list, you can have the Model 3's bigger brother, the Model S. The Model S has been in the UK since 2014 and it kick-started the Tesla name in Europe. Receiving a major overhaul in 2021, the Model S can now have a maximum range of 394 miles between charge-ups, though you’re only able to buy new Model S cars in left-hand-drive.

Performance is also a Model S strong point, as the dual-motor long-range car can do 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds while Plaid models bring this time down even further to 1.9 seconds.

Polestar 2 - 406 miles

Polestar 2

A direct rival to Tesla and one on this list that can’t be ignored is the Polestar 2. Due to a recent update and facelift, this has brought the stylish Swedish alternative into third place with an improved range of 406 miles between charges.

The Long Range single motor, which can achieve this impressive figure is also under £50k, making it half as much to buy than a Tesla Model S with similar range figures.

Fisker Ocean - 440 miles

Fisker Ocean

A relatively new brand here in the UK, the Fisker Ocean is the second model in Fisker’s history.

The Ocean is an all-wheel-drive electric SUV that rivals the likes of the Tesla Model Y and BMW iX1. There are a variety of different specifications for the Ocean but the top-of-the-line Ocean Extreme and limited-run Ocean One can achieve an impressive all-electric range of 440 miles.

Likewise with the Polestar 2, the Fisker Ocean is also competitively priced with the high-end Extreme and One models costing just over £60,000, which is still similar money to the Tesla Model Y - which has a poorer all-electric range.

Mercedes EQS - 452 miles

Electric Mercedes EQS

The EV at the top of this list is the luxurious Mercedes EQS. The EQS is essentially an all-electric S-Class equivalent and even in its most basic EQS 450+ format, it can still achieve an impressive 452 miles between charges.

The reason behind this is its large 107.7 kWh battery pack, while an aerodynamic body means that the EQS cuts through the air with minimal fuss allowing it to achieve this impressive all-electric figure.

More powerful versions of the EQS, like the EQS 53 for example, can do 0-60mph in just four seconds, however, its range on its battery is reduced as a result of the extra performance, but it can still return an impressive 348 miles between charges.
