Why choose Citroen?

Citroen has gained a reputation for its ability to produce low-cost yet good-value cars that thrive in cities and urban environments. You only need to think back to cars like the 2CV and Saxo to see how accomplished Citroen’s small cars have been yet larger vehicles like the C6 and CX showed that the French firm could nail the executive car brief too. They’ve always had a slightly unconventional approach to exterior and interior styling.

These days, Citroen is building on all of those past experiences and bringing them into the modern, electrified age. Now a part of the wider Stellantis group, Citroen is a front-runner when it comes to well-priced electric vehicles, while much of its range as a whole features some form of electrification.

But even with battery power, Citroen hasn’t lost any of the charm that has won it legions of fans over the years. It has also continued to adapt and create new models to suit a variety of different budgets, needs and uses.

What is the Citroen warranty and breakdown cover like? What does it cover?

All Citroen vehicles are covered by a comprehensive warranty, covering defective parts except those that are subject to normal wear and tear, like brake pads or windscreen wiper blades. It lasts for three years from the date of registration and includes unlimited mileage in the first two years and an overall mileage cap of 60,000 miles in the third year. It’s also transferable between owners, so further drivers can benefit if there’s any warranty left outstanding. The bodywork is also covered for 12 years, with corrosion of the bodywork from the inside to the outside covered for free.

When it comes to Citroen’s electric and hybrid models, the battery is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty. This covers performance up to 70 per cent of the original battery capacity so, if it falls below this, Citroen will replace it free of charge.

Citroen also provides free 24-hour breakdown cover for 12 months from the start of registration. Electric and hybrid vehicles, meanwhile, get eight years of breakdown cover as standard. This is also transferable to the next owner.

What are the key selling points for Citroen?

Citroen has always been focused on providing great levels of comfort in its cars and that continues to be the case today. In fact, Citroen has developed a range of innovations designed to make its vehicles as comfortable as possible. Many of its cars come with Advanced Comfort seats, in fact, which have more padding than ‘regular’ chairs and help to make long journeys feel quite plush. Citroen has also developed a new type of suspension that can really iron out the worst of the potholes and imperfections on the road.

Another real focus is on family-friendliness. Take the C5 Aircross, for example, which as the firm’s largest SUV has loads of space inside, but also includes three ISOFIX points for child seats with two in the back and one in the front.

Electric car model highlights? What’s in the Citroen range and what’s popular?

Citroen has really started increasing the number of electric vehicles it offers. Alongside plug-in hybrid models, these EVs offer the same level of comfort that we’ve come to expect from regular Citroen models but, of course, with the added bonus of that battery-powered setup.

e-C4

The Citroen e-C4 combines practicality and low running costs, with its 219-mile range meaning that it has plenty in the ‘tank’ for most journeys. Inside, it’s got a smart 10-inch touchscreen system and as well as media and navigation functions, it’ll also show you in-depth information about the electric system - you can even schedule when you want the car to start charging once it’s plugged in.

e-C4 X

The e-C4 X takes the same fundamentals of the e-C4 but adds in a crossover-style design. You should get up to 222 miles from a charge - it’s slightly more aerodynamic than the regular e-C4 - and it’s also one of the first ‘regular’ Citroen models to be launched with only the option of electric power.

Ami

The Ami, meanwhile, is something of an icon already. It was brought to the UK after overwhelming support (it wasn’t initially meant to be available here) and is already shaping up as a great inner-city mobility option. It can only do 28mph and return 46 miles of range, but it’s designed to be used in urban environments where its tiny size makes it easy to park and nip through traffic.

e-Berlingo

If space is what you’re after then the e-Berlingo should be right up your street. It’s one of the few seven-seater electric cars on sale today, and the seats can be folded down flat to create a huge load area. Plus, you can get up to 180 miles on a single charge.

e-Spacetourer

We’ve then got the ultra-practical e-Spacetourer, which has acres of space but can also bring up to 136 miles from a single charge. Plus, rapid charging capability means that a 0-80 per cent charge could be conducted in as little as 30 minutes when it’s hooked up to a suitably speedy device.
