Fiat is one of the best-known car manufacturers in the world. Best-known for its iconic 500, Fiat has, throughout the years, produced some particularly standout cars. There’s the famous Panda, of course, the tiny 126 and more recently the crossover 500X but, no matter the year, Fiat vehicles have always had something in common – character. Transplanting age-old features into brand-new EVs is a challenge that many car markers are struggling with, but it’s something that Fiat is taking its stride.
It’s why Fiat has already transitioned its famous 500 into the electric age. Now a fully-fledged battery-powered model, the 500 has the same retro-infused style as its petrol-powered predecessor but, of course, it has been brought up to date with an electric setup. It’s a great blend of the old Fiat that people know and love with the cutting-edge technology that buyers are after at the moment.
In fact, Fiat is already committed to becoming an electric-only brand by 2030, which reflects its commitment to battery power and to reducing emissions, too.
Fiat cars of all types come with a two-year warranty, covering workmanship problems, material defects or issues relating to the factory-installed parts of the car. This comes in addition to a 12-month Retailer Warranty.
The vehicle’s paint is also covered for defects for 36 months from the vehicle’s first registration date. An additional eight-year warranty is in place to cover any corrosion from the inside out of the car.
Plus, when it comes to the electric version, the battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles for when the battery’s usable capacity dips below 70 per cent.
There are also 36 months of included roadside assistance accompanying each new Fiat model, meaning that you’ve got support on-hand to help if anything should go wrong.

Fiat’s appeal lies in its heritage. As we’ve spoken about, Fiat’s back catalogue of models stretches far and wide, including some cars that people hold very dear to their hearts. But in more modern times, Fiat has focused on value-for-money, as well as creating cars that are easy to drive and cheap to run, too. The ‘modern’ 500 was an absolute storming success, bringing the classic look that people wanted but underpinned by thoroughly modern fixtures and fittings. It was frugal, too, with later ‘Twinair’ models being showcases for how frugal petrol engines could be.
It’s how Fiat has managed to transplant this classic look and feel into modern cars that really showcases how far the brand has come. The electric 500, in particular, brings low running costs and the zip of an electric powertrain, but adds in that retro style that people love. Fiat’s adoption of the very latest safety features means that its cars are packed with clever systems designed to keep both driver and passengers as safe as possible – it’s another string to the firm’s bow.
As we’ve already touched upon, Fiat’s current electric offering is centred around the new 500 Electric. From the outside at least it’s all classic 500 – you’ve got those memorable ‘rounded’ headlights, while around the back the silhouette is much the same as the one we’ve all become used to over the years. But because the latest 500 is built on a brand-new platform, it’s completely different from the petrol one underneath.
Underneath the bonnet, you’ll find many of the 500’s electronic gubbins, including a power inverter and charger module. Then, below this, is the electric motor with 115bhp, or 94bhp on the smaller battery versions. When you pick the bigger battery, however, you get a very usable 199 miles of electric range.
Plus, thanks to 85kW of charging speed, an 80 per cent top up can be achieved in around 35 minutes when you’re hooked up to a suitably rapid charger. There’s no ‘quirky’ positioning of the car’s charging port, either – it’s right where you’d expect to find the usual fuel filler cap.
Inside, there’s a host of premium touches while all versions get digital instruments that replace the traditional dials. Plus, if you fancy that wind-in-your-hair experience, you can get the new 500 Electric car as a cabriolet with a clever retractable fabric roof. It completely changes the feel of the 500 – and makes it feel far more old-school – but also means that you can enjoy those warmer days with a full top-down experience.
