Why choose Renault?

Renault was one of the first mainstream car firms to get involved with creating mass-market electric cars, beginning in the early 2010s with cars such as the Fluence, funky Twizy and the model that really took off – the Zoe.

One of the first true electric cars ‘for the masses’, the Zoe was an affordable EV that could become even cheaper if customers leased the battery from Renault. Though the firm has now retired battery leasing on its new EVs, its electric cars continue to be some of the most affordable around, while also being very easy to use – especially in the case of the Zoe.

Renault is now setting about introducing its next generation of electric cars, beginning with the new Megane E-Tech Electric – a stylish new EV offering a great range and technology, as well as being built around a specific electric car platform.

What is the warranty and breakdown cover like on a Renault? What does it cover?

New Renault models are covered by a warranty lasting up to three years from the date of first registration. In the first two years, there’s no mileage limit, either, but in the third year the mileage is capped to 60,000 miles in total.

Electric cars, however, get a more generous warranty, with the mileage limit in the third year being increased to 100,000 miles. In addition, the battery on Renault’s E-Tech electric models is covered for eight years and 100,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.

Every new Renault also comes with three tears of free roadside assistance as standard, which covers the car – rather than the driver – meaning anyone legally driving your Renault will be able to benefit if there are any issues.

What are the key selling points for Renault?

Renault has become known for its cars’ style in recent years, and both its current electric models are some of the best-designed cars on the road. Especially in the case of the new Megane E-Tech Electric, which offers a particularly stylish design with its dynamic lighting, compact body and large standard-fit alloy wheels.

The experience Renault has with electric cars far exceeds many other manufacturers too. For several years, the Zoe was the best-selling EV across Europe, and it’s really helped this French firm to push its development of battery-electric cars, as well as developing its own ecosystem to explore how these models can be renewed and recycled when their life cycle comes to an end.

Renault’s electric cars are also renowned for their value. As we’ve mentioned, this firm has helped to get thousands of people behind the wheel of EVs that might not have otherwise been able to afford them. It’s particularly true of the Zoe, which is available for a particularly attractive rate, while still being equipped with plenty of equipment – including hands-free parking, climate control and a 9.3-inch touchscreen to name just a few features.

Electric car model highlights. What’s in the Renault range and what’s popular?

Renault currently offers two EVs – the Zoe and Megane E-Tech. Here we explore them both

Zoe

The Zoe is one of the most popular electric cars to date, and has gone down well with buyers looking to make the switch to an EV but without spending a fortune. Though the Zoe has been on sale for a decade now, it was comprehensively updated a few years ago, with Renault giving it an overhauled interior with new technology, as well as a larger battery, which allows up to a claimed 245 miles from a single charge.

Easy to drive and even easier to live with, the Zoe makes for a fantastic first EV with its uncomplicated interior and easy-to-adjust-to-driving experience. There are no gimmicks or technologies here you don’t need. Offering good value for money and decent levels of practicality, the Zoe is well worth a look if you’re in the market for a compact, well-priced electric car.

Megane E-Tech

The Megane E-Tech signals a new electric era for Renault, and benefits from the flexibility of using an electric-specific platform, freeing up more room when it comes to the cabin. This hatchback also offers a particularly eye-catching design, which makes it one of the best-looking compact EVs around.

It’s also among one of the best cars in its class to drive, managing the rare thing of feeling sporty and involving as well as comfortable. Strong performance (up to 217bhp) is also offered, while a 60kWh battery allows enough range for a claimed 280 miles.
