Here’s what you need to know about Volkswagen’s electric car line-up

Volkswagen’s Electric Car Range

Volkswagen now has one of the broadest selections of electric vehicles about. They all fall under the firm’s ‘ID’ banner, which was created to help differentiate these battery-powered models from the rest of the company’s range.

But what do they all offer, what features do they have and which one could be right for you? Let’s take a look.

ID.3

The VW ID.3 is what kicked Volkswagen’s ID range off, arriving as what the firm referred to as a car which is just as crucial as the Beetle and Golf. You can see how some of the Golf’s attributes have been brought through to this EV, too, with its large boot and flexible cabin aiming to create a spacious and easy-to-live-with electric car.

While the first-generation ID.3 did receive some criticism for its touchscreen, these have quickly been rectified with a new model. You’ll find a slightly redesigned front end on these newer cars, too.

ID.4

The electric SUV segment is packed with options from all types of manufacturers. Volkswagen quickly entered into it too with the VW ID.4, which is a large SUV which uses the same powertrain setups as the ID.3. It’s a great choice for drivers who need a little extra space as with a large boot and roomy cabin, it’s got loads of practicality to offer.

In its biggest-battery form, the ID.4 can deliver a range of up to 337 miles while a sporty GTX version throws in some little extra performance for those who want it.

ID.5

Like the standard electric SUV segment, demand for coupe-inspired SUVs has also increased and that’s just what the ID.5 aims to tap into. Essentially, it’s the same as the ID.4 but incorporates a more dynamic, sweeping roofline which adds a little extra drama to the look of this SUV.

However, because that roofline boosts efficiency, it’ll actually deliver ever-so-slightly more range than the ID.4, with up to 339 miles coming in between charges. Inside, you’ll find the same spacious cabin though bear in mind that the sloping roofline does eat into rear-seat headroom slightly.

ID.7

The VW ID.7 marks a bold new frontier for Volkswagen as it enters into the electric saloon and estate segments. That latter area comes via the ID.7 Tourer, which combines electric power and spaciousness in one good-looking package.

Inside, the ID.7 has Volkswagen’s latest technology with a large central screen and a full digital dial setup. It's got some remarkable range on board, too, with Volkswagen claiming up to 435 miles on a single charge. Even ‘standard’ versions will be able to manage 386 miles, making the ID.7 a great EV for longer-distance drivers.

ID.Buzz

Finally, we have one of the most characterful cars in Volkswagen’s electric vehicle range - the ID.Buzz. A modern, electric interpretation of the iconic Volkswagen bus, it’s a van which has loads of great features wrapped up in a design which truly stands out from the crowd.

It’s available in both standard and long-wheelbase layouts while a new GTX version has added in more power and all-wheel-drive. You should get up to 258 miles from a single charge, too, so there’s more than enough in the ‘tank’ for most adventures.
