Could the BYD Ti-7 be here to tackle the Land Rover Defender?

Could the BYD Ti-7 be here to tackle the Land Rover Defender?

We’re big fans of BYD here at My Electric Lease. From the spacious Seal U to the compact Dolphin, all of this brand’s cars come equipped with tip-top technology and loads of great electrified powertrains, too.

One of the most exciting additions to the BYD range to join this year is the spacious Ti-7. It’s a large and comfortable SUV, but what else do you need to know about it? Let’s take a look.

It’s large and spacious

The Ti-7 will arrive as BYD’s largest model. In fact, it measures just over 5.1 metres long and 1.9 metres wide, so it’s certainly got some presence out on the road. The good news is that those dimensions free up lots of interior space as well.

As a dedicated seven-seater, it’ll be great for larger families. With all seven seats in place there’s a 126-litre boot to make use of, which increases to 970 litres with the third row folded flat. Collapse both second and third rows and you’ll get an impressive 1,830 litres to play with.

It’s got a clever tri-motor hybrid system

BYD is known for its futuristic hybrid systems and that’s certainly the case with the Ti-7. It’s the first BYD in the UK to get its DMp - Dual Mode Performance - plug-in hybrid system which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors for some serious performance.

However, thanks to a large 35.6kWh battery - larger than those fitted to many pure EVs, in fact - you can get up to 74 miles of electric-only range. Plus, the petrol engine will act as a generator when the battery is depleted, ensuring that you’ve always got some electric power in reserve.

There’s plenty of equipment on board

One of the best parts of the BYD experience is the sheer level of standard equipment that you get in this brand’s cars. It’s no different in the Ti-7, with all cars getting a 15.6-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch driver’s display, as well as a powerful 18-speaker sound system.

There are plenty of comfort-focused features, too, including three-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats (it’s the same for the outer middle-row seats, too) and acoustic glass, which will help to keep the cabin as hushed as possible.

It blends performance and efficiency

That clever hybrid system doesn’t just mean a decent electric-only range - it also means that you’re getting a great combination of performance and efficiency. In fact, with petrol and electric motors combined, there’s just over 400bhp, which unlocks a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds, which isn’t bad for a large car like this.

The Ti-7 will even reach a top speed of 118mph if it’s given enough space to do so.

There are more features up the Ti-7’s sleeve

There’s far more to the Ti-7 than just a large infotainment screen. There’s a built-in fridge, for instance, alongside a cup warmer to help keep your drinks at a good temperature when it’s cold outside. You also get dual 50W wireless phone charging pads to top up your devices without the need for cables.

And the price for all of this? BYD has already confirmed that the Ti-7 will start from £47,995, but you can be sure that we’ll have all of the very best leasing deals available for this exciting hybrid SUV here at My Electric Lease shortly.
