MG already has a broad range of cars. Whether it’s the HS or the sleek 4, MG is a brand that continues to go from strength to strength and it’s one we’re always keen on here at My Electric Lease.
But MG is set to take things up a notch soon with the Go. It’s a compact electric car which could be here to take on the famous Renault 5. Let’s take a look at what it has to offer.
While the Go is just a concept for now, it’s easy to see where MG has drawn some inspiration from for this compact EV. MG says that the iconic Metro Turbo has provided some inspiration for the Go, as have models like the ZR.
It’s set to be a very compact car overall, which will make it ideal for those who often drive around town or want a car that is easy to park and live with overall.
While MG has yet to disclose full details about the MG’s interior, you can clearly see the direction that the brand will be going. We’re expecting it to be a tech and screen-focused interior and one which might take cues from the recent MG4 Urban model.
One thing that we know is that the Go will be packed with standard features, so we’re expecting to see touches such as wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and plenty of driver assistance systems.
First revealed at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, the MG Go is still very much a concept for now, but we’re expecting it to be shown in production-ready form next year. However, MG has some form in creating production cars which play closely to its original concept designs, so there’s a good chance that the Go will still look like this version.
Again, MG has yet to confirm key details about the Go’s powertrain, but given the company that it’s in, it’ll need to deliver a decent amount of range. If it can do around 200 miles per charge, then it’ll put it in the same ballpack as the Renault 5, while we’d hope that a 10 to 80 per cent charge will be managed in around 30 minutes when using a rapid charger.
There’s a good chance that the Go will use a single-motor setup, too, so while performance might not be as punchy as some of MG’s other cars, it’ll still be good enough to make a quick start away from the line.
As we’ve mentioned, the key rival for the MG Go will be the Renault 5. The French firm’s compact EV has been a smash-hit success, mainly due to its stylish good looks and nippy, agile handling.
However, the Go will have more rivals in its path to the top. These could be quirkier cars like the Hyundai Inster, as well as more traditional options like the Mini Cooper or Fiat 500e.
We’re hoping to get some more information on the MG Go over the next few months and as soon as we do, we’ll keep you updated here at My Electric Lease.
